Programme of Meetings for 2024
Meetings are held on the 1st & 3rd Wednesday of every month from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at Houghton Conquest Village Hall, apart from the summer outdoor venues and the August break.
17th January: Annual General Meeting and introduction of this year's Big Paint

7th February: Big Paint with member Dave Williams
A chance to continue or start a piece for the big paint. You will need brushes, acrylic paints and a ruler if you haven’t started yet.

21st February: Composition with member speaker Dave Williams
Looking at how to follow the basic rules of composition to achieve pictures that balance and please the eye.
​

6th March: Watercolour and Pastel with guest speaker Jane Rhodes
A demonstration and have a go session. You will need: watercolour paper, watercolours and soft pastels and hairspray or a pastel fixative to seal your work.

20th March: What do I really need? With member speaker Barbara Boxshall
Exploring the huge variety of arts materials available , what they do and how to spot a bargain.
​
3rd April: Mixed Media with guest speaker Sarah Janavicius
Techniques with water colour, gouache, acrylics and textural collage. A demonstration with member participation.
​
17th April: Exhibition Preparation
A chance to complete work and prepare pieces for the exhibition. To include sharing advice on framing, mounting, choosing and using plastic sleeves and table easels.
1st May: Big Paint Assembly
A chance to help assemble the pieces of the big paint and finish preparing work for the exhibition.
12th May: (Sunday) Annual Art Exhibition

15th May: Pen and wash with a focus on perspective with guest speaker Judith Jerams
Demonstration and a chance to have a go.
​
5th June: Botanicals with guest speaker Jill Winch
Demonstration on creating wonderful botanical works using coloured pencils, watercolour pencils, pen and ink and watercolours.
​
19th June: Members’ Evening and Summer Outdoor Painting Location Reveal
A chance for members to work on their own projects, share ideas and discuss and decide on the location for the summer outdoor painting session.
​
3rd July: Oils with guest speaker Linda Peacock
A demonstration of techniques, colour mixing and using a non-technical relaxed and spontaneous approach
​
17th July: Outdoor painting evening
Venue to be discussed and decide on at the meeting on 19th June.

7th and 21st August: Summer Break

4th September: Using mixed media to create bold and colourful portraits with guest speaker Marta Plizga
A demonstration with a chance for members to have a go.
​
18th September: Members’ Evening
​ A chance for members to work on their own projects, share ideas and have a go at new works inspired by recent demonstrations!
2nd October: Acrylics with member speaker Simon Hodgson
A demonstration on the use of colour across different subjects to create original results and a chance members to create their own pieces.
​
16th October: “It all started from a doodle” with member speaker Trupti Patel
A demonstration on using mixed media including gouache and watercolour to create colourful, organic, patterned designs. With a chance for members to create their own pieces.​

6th November: Printing with member speaker Dave Williams

15th November: Members’ Evening
​ A chance for members to work on their own projects, share ideas and have a go at new works inspired by recent demonstrations!
23rd November: Saturday Craft Fayre

4th December: Christmas Social

18th Dec: No meeting, break for Christmas
